What a busy and productive week we have had.

Initial assessments for reading, spelling, handwriting, writing, number and times tables are all complete and so we can now establish working ability groups.

We have had time in the garden to help tidy it up for the start of this session and also time to spend with Drew who is leaving us this week. We would all like to wish him good luck for his new school and to say thank you for being such a friendly and hard-working boy.

We have been thinking about friendship this week and the qualities that make a good friend. We have also come up with a set of rules for table captains that will help to keep everyone working on task. We have signed a charter to agree the school rules and how to apply these to keep the class feeling happy.

We all really took up the challenge when doing jumping jacks to practise counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. Miss Keen wanted to stop at 100 but the class decided to keep going to 500 and then to 1000!!! Thanks to Layla and Aiden.

We have been trying to do simple adding sums in French by listening to the sum and working out its answer and then showing this on a number fan-quite tricky.

For writing this week we have been doing some factual research and listing interesting facts in concise sentences. Did you know?…

-five of the planets in our solar system can be easily seen without using special equipment (Felix)

-there are only 8,000 Hawksbill turtles left in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans (Tom)

-sunlight is a mixture of all the colours of the rainbow but when it dives into the sea only blue light is reflected back to us (Kaya)

The termly welcome letter was issued today, please have a read and let us know if you have any queries. Homework will start on Tuesday 3rd September.

Olivia and Harley are P7 ‘stars of the week’ but it was very difficult to choose as all pupils have worked hard and aproached their learning with a positive attitude.

“We’ve had great fun with our new teacher. I’ve enjoyed the tasks that we’ve been given.”

“I enjoyed helping do the weeding in the garden. The garden looks so much better.”

“I’m looking forward to getting to know my teacher even more. I have enjoyed doing lots of activities and keeping active.”

“I have loved being with my buddies and getting to know them better.”

Road Consultaion Thursday 30th August

There is a Public Consultation Event on tomorrow to look at the proposed walking and cycling improvements on the A82 in Inverness. This will take place at the Cameron Youth Centre and will be open between 11am and 7pm.

P5 Trip

Primary 5 will be going to Inverness Cathedral on Friday for a performance by the Osiligi Maasai Warriors.

 

P5 Class Blog

P5 have had a productive first week back in school.

We agreed on our class expectations and learned about some of the skills that we need in order to thrive in school.

We spoke about what good listening and giving and receiving compliments should look like, sound like and feel like – then we tried to apply what we had discussed!

In order to decorate our literacy working wall we decided to create our own cards for adjectives.

Hopefully these will come in handy in our writing this year!

Next week we will be finishing number and spelling assessments to help ensure that we know what the children need to learn in order to make progress.

Homework will begin in week 3, on Tuesday 4th of September.
