It’s getting to that time of year when we wonder where the week has gone. Our classes have all been busy and you can check out what they have been up to on the class google blogs.
We are really looking forward to the visit from Her Majesty’s Inspection Team next week.
Summer Picnic and Jubilee Celebrations
Fingers crossed for good weather on Thursday 2nd June when we have our summer picnic planned to take place in the playground. The picnic is free to all pupils from P1-P5 as part of free school meals. Classes are planning celebrations to mark this very special occasion and we would encourage everyone to dress up if they wish.

What can you find out about Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth?
You may wish to draw along with Steve Anthony to celebrate at home?
Primary 7 have their final day at Craggan next Wednesday. They have laser tag, mountain biking and raft building planned!
Central Two Centuries
Unfortunately due to illness we have not yet been able to finalise the plan for 23rd June with the Eden Court Team. We will send out final details soon however at this stage we are working on two tickets per family to attend the performance. We hope to leave Central around 12.30 to arrive at Eden Court for a 12.45 start. The afternoon will run to 2.45pm, which is a slightly later finish for the younger pupils.
A wee reminder that we post dates on our Connect us app.
What a super week we have had at school with a buzz everywhere.
It was especially lovely to wave our P7 pupils off on their outdoor learning days to Craggan Outdoors.
They have been having a brilliant time with lots of opportunities for fun, personal growth and team building – super job! I am sure they will arrive back later today feeling a bit tired. after two full days in the fresh air, mountain biking, canoeing, bush crafting, climbing high ropes and raft building. We are really proud of the children as the Craggan Centre staff commented on how well P7 worked together and how kind they were to one another – great example of our children living the school values of safe, mindful, aspirational. 😊 The children will have their last visit to Craggan on Wednesday 1st June.
It has been really good to get back to the Northern Meeting park this week for Sports Day practice. The children have loved using the space. Sports Day will be on 8th June in the morning. Details of exact times will be posted soon. Parents are welcome to watch.
The team are really looking forward to welcoming Education Scotland Inspectors on 31st May where the school will share our journey of continuity of learning, health and well-being and safeguarding in relation to the pandemic. Great excitement for this week as we will finish with our summer picnic and Queen’s Jubilee celebrations on 2nd June.
This week the trees we received from the Queen’s Canopy as part of the Jubilee, have been planted in the new planters. Well done to Mrs Whiting and the children for overseeing planting, just in time to celebrate the Jubilee! We are very grateful to Morrison Construction’s, Mr Fraser and Mr Farquharson, for helping to provide soil for our planters. We look forward to the remaining planters being filled soon. Also a big thank you to Mr C MacLennan for volunteering to help tidy the garden. It is looking lovely.
Next year we will be making regular visits to the Farm at inverness High School, as we have kindly been offered and accepted a plot. We hope to grow some flowers and veggies and develop lots of little green fingers!

As the weather continues to improve can you take the opportunity to look at nature and find out about the types of trees in the community? In the 50’s and 60’s children at Central had to write Nature Notes every weekend. Perhaps you would like to replicate this with your own drawings and notes which you can bring in next week?
Our team are highly committed to continuous improvement and recently we have been reflecting on how to improve the inside environment in our ELC. This means we are trying to create better visibility for our different learning areas. We will continue to work on this and address some of the storage challenges we face. Thanks to the team for their creativity and enthusiasm.

The photographer is in on Tuesday 17th May to take individual photos of the children. She will also take photos of siblings. The photographer will prepare proof photos which will be sent home so you can decide if you wish to purchase them or not. We encourage school uniform on the day.
Queen’s Platinum Jubilee
We will be having our annual summer picnic lunch on Thursday 2nd June to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee. Hopefully it will be good weather, and we can hold the picnic outside as we did prior to Covid.
The whole school will attend Eden Court for a performance of Gaspard’s Foxtrot by the RSNO on Thursday 16th June. Absolutely delighted to have been offered such a fantastic opportunity. The performance lasts about 45 minutes. We will walk to and from Eden Court on the day.
During the last few weeks of term classes are planning to have some local day trips this year. Please keep an eye on class blogs and google classroom for details. Outing dates will vary from class to class to work round other plans and commitments.
P7 are really looking forward to their class trip to Craggan. Thank you for all of your support during their fundraising events.
Central Two Centuries
As we draw to the end of the project the children continue to work hard on preparing our final performance to be held at Eden Court on Thursday 23rd June from 12.30 to 3.00pm approximately.
We will be having a final whole school assembly for P1 to P7 on Wednesday 29th June to replicate previous years.
Classes next year
The children will meet their new teacher for next year during the last couple of days of term once staffing is confirmed.
Home School Partnership Learning
We have been talking about mental health this week and generally about health and wellbeing. You may wish to watch this Learn with Lorna on Health and Well Being. This was recorded during the first lock down and may be of interest to reflect on as restrictions have now changed.
Have a lovely weekend,
Happy Friday everyone, We have enjoyed a short week this week and were glad that it didn’t rain all day today! Our team had a super in-service day focussing on safeguarding and self-evaluation.
Education Scotland I am delighted to make you aware that our school will be voluntarily taking part in Education Scotland’s Recovery visits at the end of May. A team from Her Majesty’s Inspection will engage virtually with our school community on Monday 30th May and in person on Tuesday 31st May. We are looking forward to being involved with this unique opportunity especially during our anniversary year. The visit will focus on continuity of learning, well-being of pupils, families and staff and safeguarding. The HMIe team will give us feedback however these visits are not graded as they would be if we were undergoing full inspection.
Staffing After a number of years Mrs McDonald PSA will retire from Central School at the end of this term. She has been a valued member of the team and school community and we will definitely miss her good sense of humour. Mrs A Cameron will return to work following maternity leave in June.
School Photos This year we will have school photos on Tuesday 17th May. These will be individual family photos.
Central Two Centuries Unbelievably we are now in the last term of our project. We have a final event planned for the afternoon of 23rd June which will be held at Eden Court. (12.30 to 3.00 approx) I am really pleased this event will be open to parents and further details will follow once they are fully finalised.
Bikeability We are planning our bikeability programme this term where the children will learn about bike safety. Two members of the ELC team took part in training yesterday to support children develop their skills on our balance bikes and to move onto pedal bikes. Mrs Guzowski is delighted to have received two pedal bikes from Highland Council for our ELC children to use. 😊
Letter for parents I am attaching a letter from Jason Leitch for information.
Please remember school is closed to all pupils on Friday 3rd June to mark Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee.
Wishing you all a lovely, restful weekend. Kind regards Mrs Fraser
